Memento Vivo est une œuvre pour orchestre qui s’inscrit dans une démarche profondément ancrée dans la célébration des valeurs humanistes et républicaines. À travers cette composition, l’auditeur est invité à un voyage introspectif et collectif, où l’engagement et le salut s’entrelacent dans un dialogue musical riche et symbolique. L’œuvre est structurée en quatre parties distinctes, chacune reflétant une étape clé dans le cheminement de cet engagement pour la vie. Mystérieux et assez lent : Cette première partie évoque l’émergence de l’idée d’engagement. Le thème de l'engagement, constitué de quatre notes (quinte ascendante, tierce mineure ascendante, tierce majeure descendante), est ici introduit dans un climat de mystère et d’incertitude. Le mouvement lent et envoûtant symbolise la réflexion profonde, les hésitations et les doutes qui précèdent toute décision de s’engager ; ces dernières sont personnifiées par le thème du doute (seconde descendante, tierce mineure descendante, seconde majeure ascendante). Vif : La deuxième partie, plus énergique, traduit la force de l’action une fois la décision prise. Le thème de l'engagement y est confronté au thème de la résolution, un long motif diatonique en doubles croches qui symbolise la clarté et la détermination retrouvées. Le contraste entre ces deux thèmes illustre le conflit intérieur, mais également la persévérance face aux défis. Très modéré : Dans cette section, le choral de l'engagement se déploie pleinement. Les valeurs longues en mouvements contraires représentent l’équilibre et l’harmonie des forces opposées qui se rejoignent pour faire cause commune. Le thème Servir fait ici son apparition, pont essentiel qui relie l’engagement individuel à la résolution collective. Il symbolise la transition entre la volonté d’agir et la réalisation concrète de cette volonté au service des autres. Extatique : La dernière partie est une apothéose, une célébration heureuse de la réussite de l’action collective et du salut. Le thème de la résolution réapparaît dans toute sa force, mais cette fois-ci dans une texture orchestrale enrichie, marquant l’accomplissement et l’exaltation qui découlent de l’engagement réussi. Les différents thèmes précédemment exposés se fondent dans une unité triomphale, témoignant de la puissance et de la beauté de l’action collective au service des valeurs universelles et humanistes. Memento Vivo est plus qu'une œuvre musicale ; c'est un hommage à ceux qui, chaque jour, choisissent de s’engager, de servir, et de sauver. À travers des thèmes variés et une structure en quatre mouvements distincts, l’œuvre révèle l'essence de ce voyage, de l'idée initiale à l’action accomplie, dans un dialogue entre le doute, la résolution, et l’extase de l’accomplissement. Cette composition se veut une réflexion sur la force de l’engagement et la noblesse de l’œuvre commune, piliers indispensables à la construction d’une société harmonieuse, juste et progressiste. De Claude Le Jeune à Olivier Calmel, la modernité brûlante de la poésie morale du XVIe siècle mise en lumière par la plume incandescente de Valérie Zenatti.

Sous l’impulsion de sa directrice artistique Sophie Boucheron, Coruscant se consacre à la musique de Claude Le Jeune, compositeur de génie de la fin de la Renaissance, souvent méconnu, avec l’ambition de diffuser sa musique en France et à l’étranger. Le compositeur considérait ses « Octonaires de la vanité et inconstance du monde » comme une pièce inachevée et le désir de révéler la modernité de cette œuvre en l’associant à une création contemporaine est née. Claude Le Jeune, compositeur français de la Renaissance, est une œuvre enracinée dans la culture musicale et littéraire de la réforme protestante… qui parle vivement au monde d’aujourd’hui. Pourtant, aujourd’hui, cette œuvre n’est plus chantée ; mon projet était d’abord de la faire revivre pour le public, mais aussi, puisque c’est une œuvre inachevée, de déployer textes et musique pour la relier à notre époque, tant elle me semble résonner depuis le XVIe siècle avec les réalités que nous vivons à présent. L’œuvre musicale est organisée selon les 12 modes ecclésiastiques, chacun constitué de trois octonaires, arrangés pour quatre, puis trois voix. Au fil de l’œuvre , le mètre des poèmes devient de plus en plus bref. Ainsi l’ensemble poursuit-il davantage de légèreté et de spiritualité. Les textes eux-mêmes se concentrent sur l’essentiel : louer l’éternel au milieu de l’inconstance du monde. Après avoir composé pour trois et quatre voix, Claude Le Jeune, envisageait d'ajouter des octonaires pour cinq et six voix. C'est la musique d'Olivier Calmel qui s'est naturellement imposée à moi, pour lui commander ce complément souhaité par Claude Le Jeune, tant ses sonorités et son rapport au rythme m'ont paru faire écho à la composition initiale. Il m'a semblé essentiel que les nouveaux octonaires composés par Olivier Calmel précèdent ceux de Claude Le Jeune, l’organisation de la pièce originale suggérant que les pièces à cinq et six voix commandées s'insèrent avant celles à quatre et trois voix. La question de l’écriture de nouveaux poèmes s'est ensuite posée. Les trois écrivains des octonaires originaux, Antoine de Chandieu, Simon Goulart et Joseph Du Chesne, ont laissé suffisamment de textes pour que nous puissions aujourd'hui en tirer matière à composer. Nous les utiliserons pour les compositions à cinq voix. Pourtant les multiples contextes (historiques, religieux, politiques) ainsi que l'évolution de la langue (concepts intellectuels, sens des mots, prononciation restituée du XVIe siècle) rendent la compréhension immédiate du texte parfois difficile pour les auditeurs du XXIe siècle. L'enjeu principal du projet est alors rapidement apparu : comment rendre cette œuvre plus accessible, notamment sur le plan sémantique. Pour ancrer cette nouvelle œuvre dans un contexte contemporain et accessible, j'ai choisi de faire appel à une poétesse du XXIe siècle pour les nouveaux octonaires à six voix. Pour conduire le lien entre les deux époques, il me paraissait indispensable, de commencer par des poèmes rédigés dans une langue moderne, compréhensible et accessible au public d'aujourd'hui. J'ai alors sollicité Valérie Zenatti, dont la sensibilité aux enjeux contemporains et la maîtrise d'une langue à la fois riche et fluide sont largement reconnues, pour créer ces douze nouveaux octonaires à six voix. Cette œuvre poétique et musicale, qui tissera un lien entre auteurs et compositeurs séparés de plus de cinq siècles, mérite, à mon sens, un projet ambitieux pour en faciliter l'accès au public. Face aux défis et aux pièges de notre monde, il s'agit bien ici d'ouvrir, avec Claude Lejeune, et dans l’esprit de Claude Lejeune, des pistes et de nourrir l'espérance.
